Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · OA Soccer Takes Sectionals in PK Shootout, 2-1!

OA making history again back to back sectional titles.  On to the Regional’s next Thursday [10-16] game time 5pm at Knightstown Championship game Saturday [10-18] at 7pm also at Knightstown.

Wow what a game 9# ranked OA prevailed against a fired up JCD team 2-1 in a PK shootout to win the 2014 Sectional Championship.

JCD scored about midway in the second half as they got behind our defense and had a 1on 1 with Wolfpack.  Our defense was pushed up and they got a good run and pass to one of their strikers.  We knew going in that they had 3 guys up on top that could put the ball in the net.  They might be as good as any 3 on top we have faced this year a lot of speed.  JCD likes to play the ball long from the back to the front they don’t use their mid’s as much as we do..  So we knew we had the advantage in the Middle. Ted, Nate Folop and Nate Hollingsworth controlled the center of the field  and won the 50/50 balls as we were much quicker to the ball. Nate Hollingsworth had his coming out party last night as he was everywhere.  Nate is getting more confident in his ability.  He was going up against a very good [number 22] in the middle who JCD wants to play all balls through.

After JCD went up they put 7 guys in the box plus their keeper and was just trying to hold on at that point. We didn’t panic as we haven’t all year as we have come from behind before. We have confidence in our team that we can score at any time.   We had numerous chances to score as we outshot JCD 16 to 8 with 7 to 2 on goal. We had 2 off the cross bar and 1 off the post but couldn’t get one in the net until Brian and Ted hooked up late in the game. Brian found Ted at the top of the box. Ted got the ball to his left foot at the left side of the 18  and shot a  laser across to the far post and it nested in the net. In High school if the game is tied at the end you play two seven minute periods if the game is tied after that you go into a PK shootout.

We knew we had the shooters for this even in the dark as Hauser has NO lights. We went first and they calmly stepped up one by one and put the ball in the back of the net. Wolfpack got his hand on the second shot and almost pushed it wide. JCD missed their third shot and that was the opening we needed.

It was great to see Wally Pipp I mean Mark Hoog back on the field. If you don’t know who Wally Pipp was look it up. I am sure you know who Lou Gehrig was. Tanner Alley did a great job filling in for Mark. Mark gives us that leadership and is very vocal in the back which gets our defense fired up.

Another team win.  The Graveyard boys moving on.

Adding on to the BANNER it’s awesome.
