Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · Back to Back! Boys Soccer Makes It Two Regional Titles in a Row

We are 1 of 8 left in the state.  Back to Back Regional Championships for 9th ranked Oldenburg Academy.

OA 4 Centerville 2 on a cold and raining night at Knightstown. This didn’t stop our fans as they filled the stands with their rally towels of We Believe.  We keep making History at OA as we ran our record to 16-3-1. You want to play your best soccer at the end of the season and this group is doing just that.

We played Centerville a couple weeks ago at their place and came away with a 2-1 win. So we knew what they liked to do so we tried to take that away. They have a lot of speed on top so they try and play through balls and get behind your defense. They rotate a couple boys up on top to try and keep them fresh.  We knew that Centerville was not real deep and it showed as they didn’t sub very often.  We did sub early and often as we have a deep bench that we can trust in any situation.  Which is a Coaches dream to know you have that much talent. This worked in our favor.

We scored early and often in the first half as we went up 3-0 at the half. Huber scored the first one on a stick back on a second ball. Just seconds later Johnson scored on a long shot. Folop scored the third goal of the first half. We knew that the game wasn’t over though as Centerville has a good team.  We got caught with too many pushed up on a corner kick and paid for it. As they cleared the ball out and it was 2 on 2 going the other way.  We always want numbers up on the defensive end on those plays but there was some confusion on who was pushing up and who was supposed to stay. That gave Centerville some life. We got called for a foul in the box as Jeremy slid out for a ball the way keepers are taught to do.  Unfortunately for us Jeremy didn’t come up with the ball and was called for tripping one of their players. They stepped up and made their PK shot to cut the lead to 3-2. We didn’t panic as we have some confident players. Weberding came up with a big shot to give us a little breathing room as we went up 4-2.

We are on our way to Semi-State to play Providence in a rematch of last year’s game.  Bring the rally towels.

Game time Temperature 44 wind speed 2 MPH.
Aaron Huber scored in period one at 32:06 on a rebound that the keeper bobbled. 14 seconds later at 31:52 Hayden Johnson, assisted by Brian Weberding, scored on a 30 yard laser into the back of the net.  Nate Folop scored in period 1 at 11:28assisted by Aaron Moorman from a throw in.  Brian Weberding scored in period 2 at 16:12 unassisted dribbling around the 18 and taking the shot.
Centerville scored in period 2 at 28:13 on a drive down the middle of the field and a shot in the 18.  They scored again at 18:30on a PK from a foul in the 18 by Jeremy.  They had 8 shots with 5 on goal, 8 fouls, 1 corner and their keeper had 5 saves.

OA had 17 shots with 9 on goal, 1 off sides, 8 fouls, 3 corners, 3 hand balls and Jeremy had 3 saves.  Fantastic TEAM play once again.  Thanks everyone for the support from the stands. On to the Semi State….  BELIEVE!!!!!!!
