Curt Eckstein, a 2017 graduate, is now attending Purdue University and running for their cross country team. Eckstein was recently named Big 10 Freshman of the Year for XC! Purdue’s website had the following about Curt:
“Curt Eckstein was the top freshman finisher in the men’s race at the Big Ten Championships with a 16th-place finish. Eckstein was 20th at the 3k through 5k mark before inching his way up four spots over the final 3,000 meters. Eckstein finished with a time of 24:38.1. It is the second year in a row the Boilermakers have had a freshman finish 16th at the meet.”
Another article said,
“Curt Eckstein was unanimously voted the Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year, the conference office announced Tuesday. The vote is done by the conference head coaches. Eckstein, from Oldenburg, Indiana, was the top freshman finisher and took 16th overall at the Big Ten Championships over the weekend.
Eckstein is just the second Boilermaker in school history to win the men’s cross country freshman award. He follows in the footsteps of Matthew McClintock, who earned the honor in 2012. McClintock would go on to win the Big Ten Championship his senior year with a conference record time in the championship 8,000-meter race.”
