SEI Local Sports released their “Winter Athletes of the Year” on Wednesday, March 24th. Oldenburg Academy senior Andrew Oesterling was named the 2020-21 ORVC/Independent Winter Athlete of the Year. The SEI committee looks at different criteria for each nomination: senior year accomplishments during their winter sport, career accomplishments during their winter sport, and the players other sports, school and community activities and academics. This past season, Oesterling led the Twisters in scoring (13.4 points per game), assists, three point shooting, and steals this season, while only averaging 1.4 turnover per game. Oesterling finished his career as a sectional champion (2020), the Twisters 4th all-time scorer (925), 4th in assists (174), second in steals (145), 10th in free throws made, 3rd in 3-pointers made and 8th in blocks. Coach Moorman had this to say about Andrew, “All of those stats are impressive to be sure; however, those are the least of Andrew’s contributions. He is the ultimate teammate. Andrew’s humility and sincere kindness to everyone in the basketball program, school and anyone he meets is truly an inspiration. Andrew is an example of what is good in the world. It was an absolute privilege to coach Andrew and a blessing to know him.”
CONGRATULATIONS ANDREW OESTERLING!
